The Los Angeles Chargers will keep two wide receivers
The Los Angeles Chargers needed to restructure a few contracts to keep key players on the roster for next season. The Chargers weren’t sure how they were going to keep wide receivers Mike Williams and Keenan Allen this offseason. As of March 1, the Chargers were nearly $20 million in the red for cap space, and Allen’s cap hit was about to be over $21 million. They found a way to make it work before Thursday morning.
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Chargers cleared $8.9 million with Allen and $5.46 million with Williams to keep both wide receivers on the squad for next season.
A bunch of salary conversions filed overnight to clear 2023 cap space: #Chargers WRs Keenan Allen (cleared $8.9 million) and Mike Williams (cleared $5.46M)#Dolphins edge Bradley Chubb (cleared $14.656M)#Panthers OT Taylor Moton (cleared $11M)

Those moves will help the Chargers’ big picture, but the work is not done before free agency. The team must cut more cap space to sign a free agent this offseason. The Chargers need to make a run for a Super Bowl while Justin Herbert is on his rookie contract.
