The 9-6 Los Angeles Chargers travel to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to play against the 3-12 New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Saturday for Week 17 of the regular season. With a win over New England, Los Angeles will clinch a playoff berth in Jim Harbaugh’s first year as head coach. One of the biggest keys to victory for the Chargers is the running game since the Patriots have one of the worst rushing defenses in the league, allowing the eighth-most attempts, the tenth-most rushing yards, tied for sixteenth-most rushing touchdowns, and the eleventh-most rushing first downs.
The Los Angeles Chargers have already ruled out a running back
The Chargers ruled out Gus Edwards because of an ankle injury. Edwards suffered the injury in Week 16 against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. During Tuesday’s practice, he was a limited participant and aggravated his ankle injury, causing him to miss Wednesday and Thursday’s practice. This will be the fifth game he has missed this season due to an ankle injury.
The Chargers activated a key offensive weapon for Week 17
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chargers activated J.K. Dobbins (MCL sprain) off injured reserve just in time for their clash against the New England Patriots. As Rapoport points out, the Comeback Player of the Year candidate will play against the Patriots and “help on the way.” He hasn’t played since Week 12.
Help on the way: The #Chargers are activating RB JK Dobbins from IR, paving the way for him to play against the #Patriots, per me and @TomPelissero.
A top candidate for Comeback Player of the Year, Dobbins leads the team with 8 TDs. Now, he’s back to add to it. pic.twitter.com/iEa45hKCAZ
