Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins had a great and inspirational start in his first season in Los Angeles after battling numerous injuries in his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Dobbins, a leading candidate for the Comeback Player of the Year award, rushed for 726 yards on 152 attempts and eight rushing touchdowns, on pace of career highs in his first ten games. Last Monday, he faced off against his former team, but his rematch was cut short.
The Los Angeles Chargers star missed the second half due to injury
J.K. Dobbins suffered an apparent left knee injury with five minutes remaining in the second quarter after being gang-tackled by Ravens’ defenders. Dobbins limped off the field and later went to the locker room before halftime as fans held their breath. The Chargers later downgraded him from questionable to out during the fourth quarter and was seen wearing a large brace around his left knee. He finished the night with 40 yards on six attempts.
Tests determined that Dobbins suffered an MCL sprain. The MCL injury was expected to cause him to miss some time, hence his week-to-week injury status.
The team is playing it safe
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Los Angeles Chargers have placed J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve. As Pelissero points out, the Chargers will proceed with caution in handling Dobbins’ injury so he doesn’t reinjure his knee. He will miss at least the next four games, and there is optimism that he will be healthy near the end of the season, which would be massive for the offense.
The #Chargers are placing RB J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve because of the MCL sprain he suffered Monday night, sources say.
The Comeback Player of the Year candidate is still only 25 and they want to be cautious. Four weeks on IR will get Dobbins healed up for the stretch run. pic.twitter.com/25sg4INhkI
