Former NFLPA head Lloyd Howell, who recently faced controversy over using union finances for personal expenses such as strip club payments, may be out of his office already, but it did not stop sports analysts from questioning when a federal investigation would be launched for the matter.

In a piece by sports analyst and reporter Mike Florio, he questioned how a federal investigation has not yet been called in light of the $3,000 scandal involving former NFLPA head Lloyd Howell.
“Per the report, Howell had a similar issue arise during his employment with Booz Allen Hamilton,” Florio wrote in his piece. “In 2015, Howell and a colleague reportedly ‘racked up thousands of dollars for the night’s entertainment’ at a Manhattan strip club. Howell’s colleague reportedly sought reimbursement on an expense report.”
“Howell was reprimanded, and his colleague was fired.”
Florio added his insights on the issue, and he also questioned when a federal investigation would be launched by the NFLPA, in light of the controversies its executives have recently found themselves in.
“On one level, the issue of NFLPA expense reports for strip clubs is irrelevant because Howell has left,” he added. “On another level, at what point is everything that’s been happening with the NFLPA going to prompt an ambitious federal prosecutor to convene a grand jury?”

Following Howell’s departure, the NFLPA is now in the process of selecting an interim and permanent replacement for the top position.
NFLPA Execs Leaned More Towards David White than Lloyd Howell, Report Claims
According to NFLPA executive committee members, the pre-selection process for executive director displayed overwhelming support for David P. White, a former chief negotiator for SAG-AFTRA.
In a confidential straw poll held before the candidate presentations, as reported by Mike Florio, the NFLPA committee voted 10-1 in favor of White over Howell. Yet when the issue reached the broader board of player representatives, Howell was ultimately chosen.

JC Tretter, then serving as NFLPA President and later on the Chief Strategy Officer, confirmed the committee’s strong preference for White and emphasized he personally supported that choice.
In a recent interview, Tretter noted that White’s extensive labor experience was a key factor in his vote. Tretter also stressed that the committee did not intentionally obstruct Howell’s candidacy, but their clear collective recommendation was in favor of White.
Tretter recently bowed out of his candidacy to replace Lloyd Howell, after facing backlash for it, citing the impact it also caused to his personal life and family.
