Just when it looked as though the Las Vegas Raiders would have Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach withdrew his name from the job consideration. Now we know why Kingsbury opted to back away, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
In simple terms, Las Vegas’s unwillingness to go to a third year on Kliff Kingsbury’s contract opened the door for other teams to swoop in—which the Commanders did right away, agreeing to terms with the former Cardinals and Texas Tech head coach Sunday.
Kliff Kingsbury’s Deal With Las Vegas Raiders Did Not Come Into Fruition
Although Kingsbury did not ultimately partner with the Las Vegas Raiders, he still has successfully made it back to the NFL. After his negotiation with the Raiders fell through. Kingsbury immediately found a new gig with the Washington Commanders as the squad’s offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, the Raiders have also found a new offensive architect in the form of Luke Getsy.
What Now For The Las Vegas Raiders?
Perhaps a big question for the Raiders now that they have moved on from Kingsbury is how the team’s offense will run under Getsy. They still have to decide on who will be the quarterback they will hands the keys to the offense to. Jimmy Garoppolo is a cut candidate, while Aidan O’Connell , despite some starts in 2023, remains largely unproven.
