The 2022 trade that saw the Las Vegas Raiders acquire All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers was supposed to usher in a new and exciting era of Raiders football. Adams was reunited with his college quarterback, Derek Carr, and the expectation was that they would light the NFL on fire for years to come.
Needless to say, things did not work out that way.
Now, less than three years later, Carr is playing [well] for the New Orleans Saints, the Raiders have [yet another] new head coach, and Adams is not living the situation he envisioned he would be in when he first asked the Packers to trade him.
And he wants out.
Davante Adams Has Informed the Las Vegas Raiders That He Wants to Be Traded
There have been a plethora of trade rumors surrounding Adams ever since the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. It is no secret, after all, that New York also tried to acquire Adams from the Raiders ahead of last year’s trade deadline.
There were also numerous trade rumors involving Adams this offseason because Las Vegas was, once again, entering a season with a quarterback controversy. After the All-Pro wide receiver endorsed Aidan O’Connell to be the starting quarterback, head coach Antonio Pierce gave Gardner Minshew the job.
The Netflix documentary Receiver did little to brush trade rumors and speculation aside. Throughout the series, Adams was recorded telling teammates he feared for his life playing with such a poor offense and that he needed to “get out of here.”
Prior to Las Vegas’ Week Four win against the Cleveland Browns, Adams was added to the team’s injury report with a hamstring injury. He ended up not playing, leading many to wonder if his days with the Raiders were numbered.
On Tuesday, after head coach Antonio Pierce liked a post on social media saying Adams had already played his last game for Las Vegas, Adams informed the team he would prefer to be traded:
🚨 🚨 🚨 #Raiders star WR Davante Adams informed the team that he preferred to be traded, per me and @MikeGarafolo.
There is nothing imminent, but a situation to watch for sure. pic.twitter.com/AAs5nxwqxl

As Ian Rapoport notes, there is nothing imminent, but it will not be surprising to see Adams traded ahead of the NFL trade deadline. He likely was not going to stay in Las Vegas beyond the 2024 season anyway as he has no guaranteed money left on his contract after this season. The Raiders would rather trade him than cut him and get nothing in return.
