Davante Adams’ days as a Las Vegas Raider may be numbered if head coach Antonio Pierce’s latest social media activity is a hint.
Pierce liked an Instagram post by Sports Illustrated that quoted fantasy football analyst Michael Fabiano, who said Adams may have already played his “last snap” with the Raiders, implying that he might be traded out in the middle of the season.
Despite posting thousand-yard seasons, Adams has been bothered by average quarterback plays in Las Vegas. The star wide receiver has often found his individual contributions undone by his teammates’ misses.
Adams was out of the Raiders’ Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns due to a hamstring injury, though the team won regardless. He last played in Week 3 in a losing effort against the Carolina Panthers, 36-22. After that disappointing loss, Pierce said that some players “did not show up.”
When Davante Adams was asked if he thought he was the target of the coach’s remark, he said, “I feel like, I don’t know, this is tough for me to identify that. I’m not sure.”
NFL insider skeptical of Davante Adams trade
While Michael Fabiano thinks Davante Adams is due an exit from the Raiders in the midseason, his fellow insider Adam Schefter is still hesitant to believe it.
Schefter talked to Pat McAfee on his eponymous show on Monday, shutting down the possibility of Adams going someplace else, adding that the Raiders didn’t even consider trading him in the offseason.
“I don’t see the Raiders trading him. I don’t see that happening. Not right now, surely not to the Chiefs,” the ESPN insider said. “The Raiders got multiple inquiries this summer and didn’t even entertain the conversation.”
While Schefter added that decisions could change within the Raiders office, he still thinks that Davante Adams can change things around for the franchise. However, McAfee suggests that if there are indeed trade talks, New York Jets could be a contender given Adams’ relationship with Aaron Rodgers.
Should the Raiders push through with trading Adams, teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the New York Giants could also consider making a deal for him since they all need a wide receiver in their roster.
The Raiders are scheduled to play against the Denver Broncos next Sunday, October 6. The game will take place at Empower Field at Mile High. They are currently 2-2 in the AFC West standings, tied with the Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers.
