Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams semi-shocked the NFL world on Tuesday by informing the team that he wanted to be traded. With no guaranteed money left on his contract after this season, and the Raiders clearly in rebuilding mode, his chances of returning to Las Vegas in 2025 was not good to begin with.
Obviously, Adams’ tenure with the Raiders has not gone nearly as well as he hoped it would when he first arrived via trade from the Green Bay Packers. Las Vegas sent a 2022 first and second round pick along with a 2023 second round pick to the Packers for the All-Pro wide receiver, who had informed Green Bay he would not play for them on the franchise tag, nor did he want to sign an extension for them.
The trade reunited Adams with Derek Carr, who was his quarterback while the two were teammates at Fresno State. That reunion, though, last less than a year. Now, the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is playing with his sixth starting quarterback since arriving in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Raiders Reveal What They Want for Davante Adams in a Trade
It is not every day that a three-time All-Pro wide receiver becomes available on the NFL trade market. There are any number of teams that would be thrilled to add a player of Adams’ caliber to their roster. The question, though, is how much it will cost them?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, any team that wants to trade for Adams is going to have to give up a second-round pick along with additional compensation:

Now, what will this additional compensation look like? The answer depends on the team, but it could include more draft picks and/or a player.
Of course, there may be teams that are willing to meet that price. However, it is also possible that no team wants to part with that many resources.
Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams Has a Massive Salary Cap Hit in 2025
As mentioned, Adams does not have any guaranteed money left on his contract. He has a cap hit of $44.1 million in 2025 and a dead cap hit of “just” $15.7 million. There is not a team in the NFL that is going to keep Adams on next season for $44 million. While a restructure or extension is possible to lower this number, it is not guaranteed.
In other words, will a team really be willing to part with a second-round pick and extra compensation in exchange for a player that will play less than a season for them?
Maybe, maybe not.
