Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers, was recently called out by Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn for failing to develop Trey Lance as a proper quarterback. Lance was with the 49ers for a couple of seasons, mainly as a backup quarterback to Brock Purdy. However, he was hardly noticed during his time there and did not even manage to make such an impression during his two-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys.

Everything changed for Trey Lance after he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as the quarterback was recently seen lighting it up on the field during the Hall of Fame game against the Dallas Cowboys. Lance managed to score a touchdown in the first few minutes of the game, for which he was massively appreciated. Cohn tweeted his appreciation for Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, while also calling out 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
“Since when does Trey Lance throw with touch?? Jim Harbaugh is unreal.” Grant Cohn tweeted from his X account about Trey Lance and his head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
“The difference between Jim Harbaugh and Kyle Shanahan is Harbaugh actually played quarterback and Shanahan did not.” Cohn added in another tweet.
Kyle Shanahan, meanwhile, will be hoping that his precious protégé, Brock Purdy, leads his team to victory in the upcoming NFL season. Shanahan’s 49ers will soon kick off their 2025 NFL season with a face-off against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

In the previous football season, the 49ers definitely struggled throughout and the team did not get anywhere close to the playoffs. In this new regular season, the team will be hoping to somehow get to the Lombardi trophy.
Kyle Shanahan Shares Bad News Related To Jauan Jennings
In other news, Kyle Shanahan recently spoke to press reporters and shared some bad news related to wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings is still struggling with an injury in his leg which occurred during the OTAs, but has not fully recovered. As a result, the wide receiver will most likely not be present to play in the first few weeks of the NFL season.

In fact, Jennings’ return date to the team’s roster is still not known and the team will most likely have to go ahead without him. The San Francisco 49ers, meanwhile, will be gearing up for their 2025 NFL season as they keep their fingers crossed for a stronger performance this time out. Hopefully, Purdy & Co. will churn out a better record in the 2025 campaign.
