Kris Boyd shooting: First update emerges on Jets CB’s condition after NYC incident

New York Jets cornerback and special teamer Kris Boyd is in good condition after a shooting outside a Midtown Manhattan restaurant early Sunday. EMS transported him to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

Boyd was reportedly shot twice in the abdomen, but police confirmed he is stable. The NYPD has not made any arrests. Two vehicles, a BMW X8 and a Maybach, reportedly fled the scene. Investigators continue gathering information.

Ernest Quander, a close friend of Boyd, shared the first update on his recovery. “He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good,” Quander said. He added, “He’s a soldier, through tough times. He’s fine. He’s fine.”

The shooting comes during Boyd’s first season with the Jets, where he signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract. He has not played this season after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 due to a shoulder injury.

Boyd, 29, was drafted in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. He played four seasons in Minnesota, one season with the Arizona Cardinals, and two seasons with the Houston Texans.

In Houston, he earned a reputation for strong coverage, consistent tackling, and reliability on special teams.

Former Teammates Praise Kris Boyd’s Leadership Amid Tough Recovery

Boyd’s two seasons with the Houston Texans left a lasting impact. Former teammates praised his leadership and reliability, citing his mentorship of younger players and his steady performance in coverage and on special teams.

The qualities of composure and precise tackling noted by coaches are being highlighted during the recovery of Boyd, who is currently in Bellevue Hospital after being shot in Manhattan.

Support came from beyond football. New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed prayers for Boyd, while Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson urged fans to send their best wishes.

“I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” he said

Houston Texans friends added, “Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety.”

The combined support reflects his influence across the NFL and the community, reinforcing hope for a full recovery.
