The Titans are known for their run game, but you do not become the number one seed in your conference by being completely one-dimensional. Ryan Tannehill and company produced enough last season to punish defenses that focused solely on stopping Derrick Henry. It should be of no surprise that Tannehill, (21 TD’s/14 INT 89.6 RAT) used play action in over a third of passing attempts last year and used RPO less than 10% of the time. A solid season was derailed with three interceptions vs. Cincinnati in the divisional round of the playoffs. Some believe the playoff meltdown has some doubting Tannehill’s long-term prospects in Tennessee and led to the drafting of third-round pick Malik Willis out of Liberty who has dangerous feet but is known to be inaccurate. After a strong preseason, the Titans could have a package with Willis involved to keep opponents on their toes.
A big draft day trade sent number one receiver A.J Brown (869/5TD) to the Philadelphia Eagles for a first-round pick which they used to draft his replacement 6’2” Treylon Burks out of Arkansas. The main threat at least for the start of the season is newly signed Robert Woods who spent the last five seasons with St. Louis but missed most of the Superbowl run due to injury. He is an excellent run blocker as far as wide receivers go but coming off of an injury in his tenth year, that might end up being his best quality as a player.
Tight end Austin Hooper had two down years statistically splitting receptions with David Njoku in Cleveland, but in this new setting he could now possibly return to the Pro Bowl production he enjoyed in Atlanta. He should be a challenge for the Giants linebackers and safeties.
