Kirk Cousins, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons has been benched as a result of poor performances this season. It is quite unfortunate for the Falcons who started off this season heavily leaning on Cousins to take them to the playoffs. Currently, the Atlanta Falcons are ranked third in the NFC South after winning seven games and losing seven so far.
This season, Cousins has covered 3,508 yards, grabbing 18 touchdowns and contributing 16 interceptions, which is much below his potential. On Tuesday, the Falcons came out to announce that they are benching Cousins for Michael Penix Jr. The topic was addressed by Cousins in a recent press meeting.
“There’s a standard that I have for myself, that the team has for me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t playing up to that standard consistently enough and, so, it is what it is. You roll with it. It probably was ultimately the turnovers…. it’s probably more decision-making than anything. That wouldn’t have to do with any physical limitation so, I wouldn’t say so.” Cousins said to reporters.

In his most recent appearance, Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons played the Las Vegas Raiders and won the low-scoring game, 15-9. Cousins himself went for 112 yards, completing 11 passes out of 17 attempts. The QB managed to score once, while managing a lone interception. Bijan Robinson rushed with 22 carries for 125 yards, while Drake London defended with three receptions for 53 yards, scoring once.
Skip Bayless’ Controversial Remark On Kirk Cousins Comes True
Skip Bayless has always been known for his controversial hot takes, and some time back dropped a comment on Kirk Cousins which was not well-taken by everyone. According to Bayless, Cousins was ‘way overrated’ and failed to understand why all teams were vying for the quarterback who’s now playing for the Atlanta Falcons.
Bayless’ comment about Cousins cropped up again after the quarterback was benched by the Falcons as a result of sub-par performances. Recently, Atlanta came out and publicly announced this, while also mentioning that Michael Penix Jr. will take his place.
Skip Bayless, in fact, was the only one in the FOX Sports room who came out to minimizing Cousins’ value during the offseason. While many fans came out to denounce Bayless’ comments about Cousins, calling them baseless, with the recent news the same folks have been silenced. Hopefully, Cousins will improve his form pretty soon, before the season comes to an end.
