Next stop Austin, Texas as the West Virginia Mountaineers hit to road to face the University of Texas Longhorns. Texas will be looking for revenge as the Mountaineers hold the most recent victory in the series. Last season we witnessed West Virginia throw for 300 yards in their 31-23 win in Morgantown. There are some key points to note that could lead to a Mountaineer victory.

Running Back vs. Running Back
It’s going to be a battle between two of the top running backs in the league with this match up. Each team comes into the game averaging over 5.0 yards per carry on the season. The Texas run game is carried by Junior RB Bijon Robinson. Robinson has already amassed 414 yards and seven rushing touchdowns on the season. However, West Virginia fans know they have a running back who has had a stellar start to the season as well. Converted tight end C.J. Donaldson has produced early in his career. The freshman is averaging 7.3 yards per carry and has punched in six touchdowns of his own. It will be a battle on the ground as both teams will be looking to establish the run.
Signs of Life on Defense
The West Virginia defense has been better as of late. The team has only allowed one touchdown in their last two games against Towson and Virginia Tech, respectively. The Mountaineer defense has moved up the rankings to 86th in total defense but will need to continue to climb if they hope to knock off the Longhorns in Austin and compete in the Big XII. Another factor to consider is whether this West Virginia defense will be catching a break as they face the Longhorns back up quarterback, Hudson Card. The 2020 four-start prospect has played well since replacing starter Quinn Ewers. Card has completed 66% of his passes and will be looking to improve that against a West Virginia secondary that has been suspect at times. The West Virginia defense and rushing attack will be key points if they hope to pull off the upset.
