Kevin O’Connell, head coach for the Minnesota Vikings, has been rumored to be on the to-fire list after no reports of his contract being extended have been announced. O’Connell has about one year left in his contract once the current season comes to an end and apparently a number of teams are interested in him.
However, recently an insider from the Vikings team came out to squash any rumors of O’Connell being traded out. The 39-year-old has been the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings since 2022, and is one of the most respected in the league.
“We love Kevin and there will be no trade” the insider said as per ‘ProFootballTalk’.
I just asked someone from the Vikings about the report that multiple teams are interested in trading for coach Kevin O’Connell. Response: “We love Kevin and there will be no trade.”

Before coming to the Minnesota Vikings, Kevin O’Connell was the offensive coordinator for Los Angeles for a couple of seasons. His performance with the team was pleasing for the Minnesota management, who brought him to the squad after the LA Rams managed to win the Super Bowl LVI.
In his three seasons with the Vikings, Kevin O’Connell has managed to take the team to the playoffs twice. The one year they were out was due to quarterback Kirk Cousins’ injury. The accolades are quite high for the comparatively young coach.
Kevin O’Connell Quite Happy With The Minnesota Vikings’ Performance This Season
Despite losing to the Detroit Lions in the last game of the regular season, Kevin O’Connell must be happy with the way the Minnesota Vikings played this year. O’Connell is in his third season with the team, along with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
With Kirk Cousins leaving the Vikings for the Atlanta Falcons, fans were worried about their beloved team’s future. However, quarterback Sam Darnold proved to be a godsend, throwing for more than 4000 yards, and scoring 35 touchdowns in total. His numbers earned him his first Pro Bowl selection. Detroit’s offense was not only handled by Darnold this season, but even wide receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
Even though they were filled with numerous talented players, the Vikings were unfortunately at the receiving end of a number of injuries which drastically affected their performance this year. Next up, Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings will face the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.
The Los Angeles Rams are coming to the matchup after losing to the Seattle Seahawks last time out with a final score of 30-25. On the other hand, the Minnesota Vikings were squashed by the Detroit Lions 31-9 in their previous matchup and will do their best to win against the Rams.
