The Kentucky Wildcats have been in the news recently after they have fired coach Mark Stoops on Sunday night. While the coaching search is going on, there is one interesting name that is reportedly being thrown out there. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what it would mean for the Kentucky Wildcats if this report becomes reality.
Kentucky Wildcats Rumored to be Interested in Chip Kelly

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that the word circulating among Kentucky Wildcats players is that Chip Kelly could become the team’s next head coach. Kelly was fired last Sunday by the Las Vegas Raiders as the team’s offensive coordinator after signing a three-year contract earlier in 2025.
This would be intriguing as this report does not mean he is officially a candidate for the position, but it does indicate some players have the impression of this being potentially in the works. Kelly has college football coaching experience as he was the coach of the Oregon Ducks from 2009-12 before jumping to the NFL. He would return to coach the UCLA Bruins from 2018-23 before leaving to become the Ohio State Buckeyes offensive coordinator and winning the national championship.
Chip Kelly has an 81-41 record in college football and was the 2010 AP Coach of the Year, losing in the national championship game. He has shown the ability to have success, making a bowl game in six of the 10 seasons he coached. This could also be a big-name coach who can attract players to join the Kentucky Wildcats, whether in the NCAA Transfer Portal or as high school recruits.
This is going to be interesting to see if the Kentucky Wildcats decide to go with Chip Kelly as their next head coach.
