The 2024 season was a rough one for the Kentucky football program, finishing with the second-worst record in the SEC. The result of this mediocre year was a 4-8 record with only one conference win. With the rise of the transfer portal and how frequently players switch schools, it was inevitable that any player with talent would want to join a better program. Kentucky has been forced to rebuild; they have picked up a couple of solid transfers, including Alabama’s Kendrick Law.
Kendrick Law is a four-star receiver from Louisiana. He spent three years of his college career with the Crimson Tide. Law chose Alabama over other big-time universities such as LSU and Texas. He missed a few games for Bama this year due to a lower-body injury sustained in the game against Georgia. Altogether, Law caught ten passes for 105 yards and a touchdown this year; he has 33 catches for 343 yards in his career in Tuscaloosa. If he can stay healthy, Law will be a valuable asset to Kentucky’s offense next year.
Kentucky’s Hope
Kendrick Law only has one year of eligibility to give to the Wildcats. His speed and versatility can make a huge difference for them. He was a significant piece in Alabama’s receiving corps; he also played a bit on special teams, racking up 131 yards on just five kickoff returns. The primary cause of UK’s lackluster season was the inability to generate any type of offensive rhythm or identity. I think that with the addition of Law, along with other offensive weapons, these issues could no longer burden them.
The Rebuild
The transfer portal has drawn much attention over the past few weeks; we have seen a plethora of players head to new schools. Kentucky has lost a significant number of players to the transfer portal this year; however, they have done an exceptional job so far of rebuilding what they have lost through the portal. They currently have the 10th-ranked transfer team ranking in the country, signing a total of 13 commits, two of whom are four stars. What the coaching staff has done to lead a fresh start in Lexington has been solid; the question is, will these new recruits meet Big Blue Nation’s expectations?
