Kenny Pickett’s shocking trade from the Cleveland Browns to the Las Vegas Raiders has definitely shaken things up in both teams. While the Raiders will enjoy having a seasoned quarterback like Pickett in their roster, the Browns may face many more challenges with his exit. The Browns currently have starting quarterback Joe Flacco and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
The team is yet to settle on a backup quarterback between Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, with more odds being in favor of the former. While things look pretty okay in terms of starting quarterback right, the team will struggle when injured quarterback Deshaun Watson comes back after his recovery, according to analyst Mike Florio.

Florio’s recent article discusses this in detail and also predicts that Watson might simply want out of the team if the Browns are not ready to play him in the roster. Watson is recovering from his re-ruptured Achilles tendon, which occurred earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns have been awfully busy in the offseason, and even now, as the regular season approaches. With Flacco as the starting quarterback, it was first reported that Kenny Pickett would be the backup quarterback. This scenario was well-received by fans and analysts alike, since the offense will be in the hands of experienced players.
Kenny Pickett’s Raiders To Kick Off Regular Season With Patriots Face-Off
In other news, Kenny Pickett’s new team, the Las Vegas Raiders, will be kicking off their 2025 NFL campaign with a matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 1. The Raiders will have veteran quarterback Geno Smith as their official signal-caller, and Pickett’s opportunities to play for the team in this season is heavily doubted.

The Raiders will be entering the upcoming football season after a mixed preseason performance, with the team tying in one game and losing in the subsequent two. Over the weekend, the Las Vegas Raiders locked horns with the Arizona Cardinals and lost 20-10. Starting quarterback Geno Smith did play for a wee while in that game, completing two passes out of three attempts and scoring a single touchdown in that brief window.
On the other side, Kenny Pickett’s former team, the Cleveland Browns, has a new conundrum to deal with after his trade. The Browns will have to figure out who their backup quarterback will be between rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
