The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most dominant franchises and have been doing so the last few years without massive wide receivers on the roster.  However, it appears the team will not have one of its Super Bowl-winning receivers as he announced his retirement on Friday.

Let’s take a closer look as to which Kansas City Chiefs player decided to hang up the cleats and what it means for the team going forward.

On Friday, former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Richie James would take to social media and announce that he is retiring from the National Football League.

“It took time but i have come to realize i am Retired from the NFL. 7th round out of MTSU. I feel like i was just a ball player to last that long. Unfortunately my knee never healed properly. I was playing hurt since 22′. Oh well. I gave everything I got to the game of Football.”

James would be drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers and play three seasons there before missing the entire 2021 season. The New York Giants would sign him in 2022, and he would appear in all 17 games. The Chiefs would sign him in 2023, and he would play in nine games before winning the Super Bowl.

James would finish his career with 105 receptions on 143 targets for 1,372 yards (13.1 yards per catch) with seven touchdown receptions throughout his 66 games. It is incredible to retire with a Super Bowl victory, but that is what the last moments Richie James will have played in an NFL game.
