The Kansas City Chiefs remain on the fast track for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl victory. However, that doesn’t mean the team hasn’t faced their fair share of bumps in the road. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a two-time league MVP and a future Hall of Famer has tossed an NFL-high eight interceptions and is on track for his worst statistical campaign in a historic eight-year professional career. To add insult to injury, Mahomes has struggled to gain consistent reps with a specific group of wide receivers. Before the start of the season, Kansas City lost wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown for the year, while second-year standout Rashee Rice landed on IR after just four games.
With fellow pass catcher JuJu Smith-Schuster ailing with a hamstring injury and newly acquired star receiver DeAndre Hopkins likely still learning the ins and outs of the Andy Reid playbook, the Chiefs lost another offensive weapon to injury on Thursday. Rotational wide receiver Skyy Moore will head to the IR, becoming unavailable for the AFC West team for at least the next four weeks.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Skyy Moore Heads to Shelf
According to the Kansas City Chiefs via their social media accounts:
We are placing WR Skyy Moore on IR with a core muscle injury.
Skyy Moore, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will head to the IR with a core muscle injury. In his third season, Moore has failed to catch any of his three targets while playing just 20% of the team’s snap share. However, with injuries to fellow wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, Rashee Rice, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, the third-year pro had a chance at elevated playing time. Moore has struggled to live up to his second-round value in his three NFL seasons, collecting 43 receptions for 494 yards and one touchdown. Entering this weekend, he ranks dead last in PFF’s WR rankings.
With Moore becoming the fourth Kansas City wide receiver unavailable for Sunday’s clash against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chiefs will likely lean on rookie Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins. Worthy, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns, while Hopkins comes to KC via trade from the Tennessee Titans. A three-time All-Pro, D-Hop has 15 catches for 173 yards and one touchdown this season.
