The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to win their third Super Bowl since 2019. It would be one of the best starts to a quarterback’s career in NFL history if Patrick Mahomes was able to win his third ring. At this point in the season (really when playoffs start), every team left standing is dealing with injuries across their roster. A 17 game season in the NFL will certainly do that.
However, leading up to the Super Bowl, one leader on the Chiefs squad had something to say regarding an injured wide receiver who may make his return.
Kansas City Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Released A Statement Regarding An Injured Wide Receiver Who May Make His Return For The Super Bowl
There’s no way to be sure that Kadarius Toney will play in the Super Bowl since he hasn’t played since December 17. He has been hampered by nagging ailments most of the season, and a hip injury kept him out of the playoffs.
In last year’s championship final, the former first-round talent returned a punt for a touchdown, and he also caught an easy touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. Having returned to practice on February 1, it is quite possible that Toney will be able to suit up on February 11 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kelce was asked what advice he might give younger players on the team or ones who haven’t suited up in a while (like Toney):
“At the end of the day, no matter how much hype, no matter how many cameras, no matter how many lights are out on the field… it’s still the game of football that you know how to play and you’re one of the best in the world at doing it,” Kelce voiced toward his teammates.
“Believe that, feel that confidence, and just try not to make the moments bigger than what they are,” he continued, adding that they can “lean on their brothers” if they start to feel a little nervous.
“We’ll find a way to get through this thing,” the veteran leader concluded.”
