Star tight end Travis Kelce has until March 14 to decide on his playing future with the Kansas City Chiefs, an NFL insider reports, which would be enormously financially relevant. According to The Athletic, Kelce will receive a $12.5 million bonus on March 15 and that number will be vital for the team to keep its salary cap in check and to plan for the roster.

Travis Kelce Stance
For over a decade, Travis Kelce has been a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ offense. Since he posted 97 receptions last season, his output decreased in receiving yards (823), yards per catch (8.5), and touchdowns (three) to career lows. Speculation has been rampant as to whether or not he will return for another season after he recorded four catches for 39 yards in the Chiefs Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that went down 40-22.
Currently projected with only $5.38 million in salary cap space for 2025, the Chiefs sit at 23rd in the league. With these constraints, they have to take strategic moves before free agency starts on March 10. Apparently, the Chiefs are ready if Kelce is to depart this season from their signing of TE Noah Gray to a three-year, $18 million extension last season, so Kelce’s impending decision will be that much more important.
None of this has yielded any definitive answers from Kelce as to his future. With his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, on their “New Heights” podcast, he said, he is taking some time to think about what’s next.
“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year and right now I’m just kicking everything down the road,” Kelce said. “I am not making any crazy decisions, but right now the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and my coaches.”
Kelce even admitted the effects of playing more playoff games have taken a huge toll on his body. Especially playing in back-to-back-to-back years.
All eyes will now be on Kelce, who will contemplate whether or not to stick with the Chiefs into the 2025 season as he engages in the days leading up to the deadline. Will he break up with the Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City, or will he suit up for another year?
