The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2024 NFL season looking to three-peat as champions. In order to do that, they will need a lot of different players to step up in a big way.
One of those players is rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Worthy was added to give Patrick Mahomes the kind of weapon that he has been missing since Tyreek Hill left town. He has elite speed and athleticism and will open up the big play down the field.
So far during training camp, he has been living up to the hype that he’s received.
Kansas City Chiefs Teammate Offers Bold Warning to NFL About Xavier Worthy
Mecole Hardman, the team’s Super Bowl hero from last season, spoke out about the rookie wide receiver. He’s already seeing big-time plays down the field coming for the rookie this season.
“He’s coming along well and learning the playbook well. He’s adjusting well and he comes with that speed, man, so I’m pretty sure we’re going to have him on a lot of things going deep.”
Making plays down the field is something that Worthy can absolutely provide to the Kansas City Chiefs. During his college career, he was a highly reel with the Texas Longhorns.
In the 2023 college football season with Texas, Worthy ended up catching 75 passes for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns. He had nine touchdowns in 2022 and 12 in 2021.
Standing in at 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, Worthy is a very similar build to Hill. Whether or not he can have the same kind of impact remains to be seen.
Mahomes is excited about his new wide receiver corps. Along with Worthy, the Kansas City Chiefs went out and signed Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in NFL free agency. Just like Worthy, Brown is a speedster who can make massive plays on deep throws.
Expect to see the Chiefs’ offense back to playing at the elite level they were at with Hill on the team. They prioritized getting back to a bigger playmaking passing game. Worthy is going to be a huge part of that and it will be interesting to see what he can do as a rookie.
