The Kansas City Chiefs were able to keep their postseason hopes alive after their 23-20 overtime home win against the Indianapolis Colts. However, that was not the only news for the team today as they have added a potentially dynamic playmaker to their team. Let’s take a deeper dive into who it is and what it could mean for the Kansas City Chiefs going forward.
Kansas City Chiefs Sign RB Dameon Pierce

The Chiefs have been looking to continue adding playmakers to make the team even more effective and general manager Brett Veach made a move on Sunday night doing so. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that the team has signed free agent running back Dameon Pierce to its practice squad.
Pierce was surprisingly released on Thursday and officially cleared waivers, meaning he could sign with any team he chose. He wound up choosing the Kansas City Chiefs and adds another look to the team’s running game with Kareem Hunt and an injured Isiah Pacheco.
The Chiefs entered Week 12 being 16th in the league with 118.3 rushing yards per game. While Pierce has rarely seen the field in four games with the Houston Texans, the 2022 fourth-round pick recorded over 1,100 total yards from scrimmage in his rookie season. With the ability to run the football well throughout his career, this gives him a chance to be part of a team contending for a playoff spot and get an extended role.
In addition to being able to run the football, Pierce also has experience as a kick returner, averaging 32.8 yards per return and one touchdown in 20 career kick returns. This may not be a massive move, but the Chiefs were rumored to be in talks with the New York Jets for Breece Hall at the trade deadline, so this certainly addresses a need for the team.
