The Kansas City Chiefs are minutes away from taking on the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football for their Week Five matchup. It will be their first game playing without their leading wide receiver, Rashee Rice, who suffered a devastating knee injury against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week Four. It has been over a week since the injury happened, and Kansas City finally has some clarity on the full extent and expected recovery time.
Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice Is Out for the Season
According to multiple reports, the initial belief that Rice had suffered a season-ending knee injury proved to be correct. He will not return for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.
Sources: While #Chiefs star WR Rashee Rice’s season is expected to be over, he did receive positive news today from Dr. Dan Cooper.
Rice needs his LCL repaired, but there is a chance that’s the only ligament to be repaired. He’s expected to make a full recovery. pic.twitter.com/x5m2ee1Xb6

While his LCL is damaged, the good news is that his ACL likely does not need any surgical repair. The doctors will not know for sure until they perform surgery to repair the LCL.
This is potentially good news for Kansas City. As many fans are aware, a torn ACL requires nearly a full year of recovery time. If he had torn that ligament, he would not be able to take the field again until after the 2025 NFL season starts.
However, LCL recovery time is short by comparison. If that is the only ligament injured, he will only be out for a few months and should be ready to play again when next season begins.
