Kansas City Chiefs: Injured WR Calls For Big Game From Fellow Pass-Catcher in 2024 Debut

On Thursday, the NFL season will officially get underway with last season’s Super Bowl champ, the Kansas City Chiefs, playing host to two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Each team will embark on a new season following a largely successful offseason. However, Kansas City suffered one setback in the preseason, with wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown suffering a shoulder injury in the team’s exhibition opener. On Wednesday, the Chiefs announced that Brown’s injury will leak into the regular season, with the former first-round pick set to miss the regular season opener.

However, Brown remains locked in as he heads into his first season with the NFL champs despite his injury status. Brown took to Twitter on Wednesday, claiming one of his fellow pass-catchers will have a massive performance on Thursday Night Football.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs are a field goal favorite over the Baltimore Ravens, per DraftKings Sportsbook. However, Kansas City will operate without one of their crucial signing from this offseason, wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. Vegas has yet to move the line with the announcement of Brown’s absence, and the star wideout also remains unfazed about any setbacks the Chiefs’ offense could face. According to Brown:

Your performance will feed families tommrow brotha (quote tweet on a post by Kansas City second-year pro Rashee Rice)

Brown did not mince words when sharing his expectations for fellow receiver Rashee Rice this upcoming Thursday. With Brown unavailable, Rice will likely earn a significant target share, similar to what he received late last season. In 2023, from Week 12 to Week 17, Rice caught 43 passes for 518 yards and three touchdowns. This offseason, he has earned high praise for his continued growth in head coach Andy Reid’s unique and efficient offense.

This offseason, Rice sidestepped a potential suspension from the NFL after fleeing from a multiple-car accident in late March. However, the first civil lawsuit against Rice will begin in court on December 9 this year, potentially resulting in a suspension in 2025. Last season, Rice posted 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.
