The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to start the 2024 season 2-0 with their matchup this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Chiefs just escaped the Baltimore Ravens in Week One in a gritty contest with players’ emotions riled up to kickoff the season. During the first week after every team played at least one game, the NFL began to hand out fines and punishments to players and organizations again, and the Chiefs were punished brutally.
Kansas City Chiefs Punished
The NFL has fined the Chiefs organization $100,000 and veteran tight end Peyton Hendershot $5,472 for a sideline shove that angered Baltimore’s star linebacker Roquan Smith in the NFL’s season opener. According to reports, the tight end plans to appeal the large fine.

Peyton Hendershot
Hendershot was added to the Kansas City roster from the Dallas Cowboys after the roster-cutdown deadline last month. While he was inactive in last week’s game, he pushed Smith after the linebacker appeared to hit quarterback Patrick Mahomes after he had gone out of bounds. Even though no flags were thrown, Hendershot came to the defense of his quarterback after what he assumed was a dirty play.
Smith took offense to the shove, and let him and the rest of the NFL world know what his thoughts were following the matchup.
Whoever 88 is (Hendershot), I don’t know who he is, but he better watch himself. He did a little slick push. I’ll see him when I see him.
NFL Cracking Down on Altercations
These comments from Smith are likely what initiated the fine from the league, however, the tight end plans on appealing this fine. The league has started to crack down on players that are on the sideline or inactive interfering or getting in altercations with players on the field, and they showed with these fines that they will be looking into everything.
What are your thoughts on these fines, and do you think Hendershot’s appeal will be upheld?
