The Kansas City Chiefs have made a massive change to Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones’ contracts, ahead of NFL free agency and the new NFL league year officially getting underway.
According to a report from ESPN’s Field Yates, the Chiefs restructured Mahomes’ and Jones’ contracts, in a move that creates $49.44 million in new cap space.

Prior to restructuring Mahomes’ and Jones’ deals, the Chiefs were near the bottom of the league in cap space and spending flexibility and needed the cap space in order to officially sign LT Jaylon Moore and CB Kristian Fulton, who Kansas City added during the free agency negotiating window.
Kansas City now has upwards of $29.5 million in cap space, which is plenty to keep shopping to fill needs on the roster in free agency, as well as to have on hand for the team’s incoming NFL Draft class, later this spring.
