The Kansas City Chiefs were dealt two unfortunate injuries at wide receiver in 2024.
Marquise Brown, who the Chiefs signed to a one-year contract in free agency this spring suffered a shoulder injury in the team’s first preseason game in August. Second-year receiver Rashee Rice sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 4.
The Kansas City Chiefs offense has struggled in 2024
Those issues have contributed to Kansas City’s struggles on offense, though the offensive line has been a major problem, especially in pass protection. Mahomes has taken 35 sacks in 2024, seven more than his previous high for sacks which came in 2021. Those hits have contributed to issues in the passing game, as Mahomes has thrown for 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions this season.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, the team is set to get Brown back in time for the playoffs. He’ll join rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy and veteran DeAndre Hopkins, who Kansas City traded for in October. The team has added veteran help during the season as they attempt to complete a three-peat. Kansas City added veteran DJ Humphries for help at left tackle in November.
Still, the fanbase thinks the Chiefs could add more firepower to the offense.
A veteran wide receiver became available on Monday
On Monday, veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. cleared waivers after the Miami Dolphins released him last week. Chiefs fans on social media think Beckham would be a helpful addition to Mahomes and the offense for the playoffs. And fans noticed a spot opened up on the roster when the Chiefs cut running back and former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Odell Beckham Jr. to the Chiefs?
“Watch the Chiefs sign OBJ,” wrote a fan.
“Chiefs will sign OBJ,” suggested one poster.

The Chiefs need to forget about looking for pass catchers and concentrate on protecting Patrick Mahomes. It doesn’t take a genius to know 35 sacks doesn’t make any difference on who the pass catchers are!!!
Can he play left or right tackle, well enough to keep Mahomes from getting sacked?
If not the Chiefs don’t need him. The offensive line can’t keep Mahomes safe long enough for him to get to him anyway.
