Even though the Baltimore Ravens have what it takes to win it all this season, the Kansas City Chiefs still came out on top and reminded them why they’re the reigning champions. This win has led the Patrick Mahomes-led squad to retain their ranking as the best team in the NFL after their Week 1 victory.
In an exciting season opener, the Chiefs edged out the Ravens with a score of 27-20 in a dramatic finish. Mahomes showcased his skills, throwing for 291 yards and a touchdown, while the Chiefs’ defense held firm against Lamar Jackson in the game’s closing moments.
The game ended with a controversial play, as Jackson appeared to connect with tight end Isaiah Likely for a potential game-tying touchdown. However, a video review confirmed that Likely’s toe was out of bounds, overturning the call and sealing the Chiefs’ victory. Mahomes reflected on the tense ending, emphasizing the narrow margins that define the game.
As the teams moved into the second half, the Chiefs extended their lead, but Jackson’s relentless effort kept Baltimore in the game. Ultimately, despite a strong final drive, the Ravens fell short, leaving Jackson frustrated with another loss to the Chiefs, whom he labeled as their weakness This matchup highlighted the intense rivalry and set the tone for both teams as they continue their pursuit of success this season.
Kansas City Chiefs Ranked the Best NFL Team After Week 1 Win Against Baltimore Ravens
After their Week 1 win, the Chiefs are projected on top of the league in the latest analysis by from Bleacher Report and ESPN ahead of Week 2.
“It didn’t stop them from winning a second straight Super Bowl last year, but the Kansas City Chiefs had a fairly glaring offensive deficiency. The team’s lack of wide receiver talent outside Rashee Rice made it all but impossible to hurt opponents vertically. Kansas City had one touchdown pass all season from outside the 20-yard-line. The Chiefs matched that total Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens,” the Bleacher Report article stated.
“Worthy had the impact the Chiefs were hoping for when they drafted him in the first round. He delivered two plays of more than 20 yards, the first one a touchdown on an end-around the first time he got the ball and the other a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.
The Chiefs had three pass plays of more than 30 yards and three others of more than 20. Worthy’s mere presence on the field might have contributed even when it wasn’t him getting the ball,” Teicher wrote.
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2, they enter as favorites following a strong performance against the Ravens. The Bengals, coming off a disappointing loss to the Patriots, struggle with consistency, particularly without Tee Higgins.
The Chiefs are definitely in a good place heading into Week 2, especially after their big win against the Ravens. If all goes well, they may be able to replicate their success against the Bengals.
