Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been under a great deal of pressure lately. A future Pro Football Hall of Famer and nine-time Pro Bowl selection is off to one of the worst starts of his career. Through four games, he has just 15 receptions for 158 yards and no touchdowns.
While the Chiefs are 4-0, they have not won games in convincing fashion like one would think a two-time defending Super Bowl Champion team would. Over the course of the first quarter of the season, Kelce has been highly criticized by fans, many of whom are fed up with the attention that he receives due to his relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winning popstar Taylor Swift.
Many Fans Blamed Taylor Swift for Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Getting Off to a Slow Start
In Kansas City’s Week One victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Kelce had just three receptions for 34 yards. The next week, he had one catch for five yards. Swift was in attendance at each of these contests, both of which were played at Arrowhead Stadium.
Swift was not present for the Chiefs’ Week Three victory over the Atlanta Falcons, a game that saw Kelce record four receptions for 30 yards.
After that game, former New England Patriots star Rodney Harrison stated that he did not think Kelce was completely focused on football:
“He’s busy, he’s got a lot on his plate. You think about it, he’s doing a lot of different things media-wise, he’s playing football, he’s got other things going on. It’s a lot of stuff going on. But when you’re in that situation, you got to focus on everything else, and you got to focus 100% on football and that’s the main responsibility.”
One of the more memorable images from the Week Three game was of Kelce looking sad and dejected on the sidelines. Many attributed to rumors of a breakup with Swift, while others claimed that he was simply washed up.
As it turns out, both explanations were wrong.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Got a Surprise Visit from Taylor Swift Prior to Week Four
According to the Daily Mail, Swift flew from New York City to Kansas City to surprise Kelce at his mansion prior to the Chiefs’ Week Four game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
She did not make the trip to Los Angeles to watch Kelce compete against the Chargers due to security concerns, but her surprise visit seemed to have had its desired effect.
Going into Sunday’s win over Los Angeles, Kelce had just eight receptions for 69 yards on the season. In Los Angeles, however, he erupted with seven catches for 89 yards, his best performance of the season.
Kansas City will take on the New Orleans Saints at home on Monday Night Football. It will be interesting to see if Swift will be in attendance.
