The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0 heading into their Week Three matchup on the road against the 1-1 Atlanta Falcons. Both teams are coming off of narrow victories in their previous games. The Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25 on a last-second field goal by Harrison Butker. Atlanta is coming off of an exciting 22-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, a victory achieved with Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Drake London with 34 seconds left in the game.
As Kansas City’s upcoming tilt with the Falcons is scheduled for Sunday night, there is a great deal of buzz surrounding the game. Of course, many fans are expecting to see Taylor Swift on television, as the networks tend to do whenever she shows up for a game. Ever since she and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made their relationship public last year, her attendance at games as been a source of much conversation and debate online.
And on Falcons player is planning on using their relationship to his advantage.
Atlanta Falcons Safety Jessie Bates III Plans on Using Taylor Swift Taunts Against Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce
During an appearance on The Pacman Jones Show, Falcons safety Jessie Bates III said that he will do or say just about anything to gain an advantage over Kelce and the Chiefs offense. This includes using Swift-related taunts in an effort to get under his skin.
“Once that clock ticks, and we’re in between those lines, I see red sometimes and might say some crazy stuff to him. It may involve Taylor, it may not. It’s just part of the game, talking your little smack,” Bates said (via Fox News).
This is not to say that he dislikes Kelce or Swift. Rather, he just wants to try and get under Kelce’s skin and throw off his game.
“I don’t listen to much Taylor Swift, but, obviously, you gotta have respect for what she’s done in her career. And then with Travis, you gotta have some type of respect with him.”
Bates, who used to play for the Bengals, is no stranger to playing the Chiefs. While he will do whatever it takes to win, he does have an immense amount of respect for Kansas City, especially quarterback Patrick Mahomes:
“I think (Mahomes is) a dynamic player. You know he can play on time, and he can play off schedule and extend some plays with his feet. Him and Kelce just got that crazy chemistry where a lot of times they’re getting a lot of their yards, a lot of their success comes from after that second play starts.”
As to what kinds of things Bates will say, one can only hope that the hot mics pick up some of his more colorful remarks.
