The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0 and one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL this season. These wins, though, have not come in what one might call convincing fashion. Indeed, each of Kansas City’s four wins this year have been decided by seven points or less. While it is true that great teams win close games, the lack of dominance, especially on offense, has been concerning to some.
The offensive struggles have not been helped by the numerous substantial injuries that the team has suffered on that side of the ball. Even before the season began, wide receiver Marquis “Hollywood” Brown was lost for the year with a shoulder injury he suffered in the Chiefs’ first preseason game. Running back Isiah Pacheco is currently on injured reserve with a fractured fibula that will keep him out for a while, too.
The most recent loss on offense, though, might be the most frustrating. Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is likely out for the year with what is believed to be a torn ACL he suffered in Kansas City’s most recent win.
What Is Going on with Kanas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice?
Rice was injured on a play that saw quarterback Patrick Mahomes throw his fifth interception of the season. As the Chiefs offense chased down Kristian Fulton, the Los Angeles Chargers defender who intercepted the pass, Mahomes attempted to make a tackle. Unfortunately, his momentum took him into Rice’s leg.
When the injury first happened, many were convinced that it was a torn ACL and that Rice was done for the year. However, his knee is so swollen that imaging tests cannot make an accurate diagnosis. That being said, Kansas City has placed Rice on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least four games.
While on injured reserve, whether it be for just four games or longer, Rice is hoping that the NFL will hand down a suspension for his offseason arrest for causing a car accident in Dallas, Texas. According to complaints and a lawsuit filed against him, Rice was driving 119 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
He also fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Rice is hoping that any suspension the NFL might hand down as a result of these things will be handed down while he is on injured reserve. That way, he can put the incident behind him once he gets healthy.
The Kansas City Chiefs Were Named the Top Trade Destination for Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs
Earlier today, it was reported that the Green Bay Packers are suspending one of their starting wide receivers, Romeo Doubs, one game for conduct detrimental to the team. This decision concludes what has been an unusual couple of days in Green Bay with Doubs apparently unhappy with his role on the team (he is third on the Packers in targets and second in receptions).
The decision to suspend Doubs and his alleged unhappiness with the team has, of course, spurred trade rumors throughout the league. That being said, according to CBS Sports, teams that have reached out to the Packers in the last few hours regarding Doubs’ trade availability have been turned down.
He is not being traded.
That does not mean, though, that NFL analysts have stopped coming up with hypothetical trade destinations. CBS Sports‘ Tyler Sullivan believes that the Chiefs would be the best destination for the third-year wide receiver:
“You had to see this coming, right? Whenever a player of Doubs’ caliber or higher could be on the market, it won’t be long before the Chiefs are mentioned as a possible landing spot. The club certainly could use another pass catcher in the aftermath of wideout Rashee Rice suffering a knee injury that has now landed him on injured reserve and possibly could sideline him for the entire season. Doubs could quickly become a top target for Patrick Mahomes in a wide receiver room that currently is headlined by rookie Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster.”
As mentioned, though, the Packers are not looking to trade Doubs. Still, it is a fun thought of getting a player of his caliber in Kansas City. Doubs is just the third Packers wide receiver ever with 100 receptions, 1,000 yards, and 10 touchdowns through his first two NFL seasons.
Hall of Famer James Lofton and should-be Hall of Famer Sterling Sharpe are the other two.
