Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has won just about every individual award there is to win in the NFL. In his very first year as the starting quarterback of the Chiefs, he threw 50 touchdown passes, won Offensive Player of the Year, and won the NFL MVP Award. The following season, he led Kansas City to their first Super Bowl victory since 1970 and won his first Super Bowl MVP Award.
Since then, Mahomes has won a second NFL MVP and two more Super Bowl MVP Awards. He also signed an astonishing market-changing 10-year $450 million contract that will essentially tie him to the Chiefs for the remainder of his career.
In other words, the three-time Super Bowl Champion has achieved heights that very few have in NFL history. Yet, his peers do not seem to think that he is the best player in the NFL right now.
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Was Ranked 4th on the NFL’s Top 100 List
As training camp began, the NFL top 100 list was revealed little by little. This was a ranking of the top 100 players in the league as voted on by the players themselves.
To the surprise of many, Miami Dolphins (and former Chiefs) wide receiver Tyreek Hill was voted as the best player in the NFL by his peers. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who won his second NFL MVP Award last season, was voted as the second-best player. San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was third.
And Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl Champion, was ranked fourth.
Former NFL offensive lineman and current ESPN analyst Damien Woody did not think very highly of the players ranking Mahomes so low:
“You just lose all credibility when Patrick Mahomes is sitting at No. 4 and not at No. 1.”

“You just lose all credibility when Patrick Mahomes is sitting at number four and not at number one,” Woody said.
For Mahomes, though, it sounds like his peers just gave him a bigger chip to wear on his quest for a third-consecutive Super Bowl.
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Responds to NFL 100 Rating
When asked about his ranking on Wednesday, Mahomes said, “It is what it is.”
The quarterback continued, “At the end of the day, all I can do is go out there and play the sport that I love. The rankings are the rankings.”
In other words, he is going to let his play do the talking. He has been at the top of the NFL podium at the end of the Super Bowl in each of the last two seasons and in three of the last five.
