The Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to do what no team has ever done in the history of the NFL: win three consecutive Super Bowls. They are off to a good start, as a team, after improving to 2-0 with their 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.
It was far from a perfect game from the Chiefs, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing two interceptions and running back Carson Steele losing a fumble. They were, however, able to do just enough to win, which seems to have been this team’s M.O. over the past few seasons.
Unfortunately, the win came at a cost. Running back Isiah Pacheco left in the final seconds of the game with a leg injury that is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.
Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Isiah Pacheco Suffered a Fractured Fibula
After the game, Pacheco was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot and using crutches. It certainly was a bad omen for Kansas City and their fans.
Their worst fears were confirmed on Monday afternoon when it was reported that Pacheco had suffered a fractured fibula. According to a report, the Chiefs’ star running back is going to be placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
While that is certainly not good news for Kansas City, the silver lining is that Pacheco can return yet this season. Of course, that will depend on how his injury heals. A player placed on injured reserve must miss four games at a minimum. If Pacheco responds well to treatment and heals quickly, he could return early.
That being said, a setback could also mean that he returns later.
In any case, the Chiefs need to find an answer at the running back position for the next few weeks and are showing interest in one of their former players.
The Kansas City Chiefs Are Bringing in Former Running Back Kareem Hunt for a Visit
According to multiple reporters and NFL insiders, the Chiefs are bringing in Kareem Hunt, one of their former players, for a visit. If it goes well, he could be signed to help replace Pacheco while he is out.
Hunt was drafted by Kansas City in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He led the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie and also added eight touchdowns.
He got off to a great start in 2018, rushing for 824 yards and seven touchdowns in the team’s first 11 games. However, the Chiefs released him in November after a video of him beating a woman surfaced online.
Hunt has spent the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Last year, he had 411 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
