The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to make history this season. If they are able to win Super Bowl LIX, they will become the first team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl three times in a row. Regardless of whether or not they are able to achieve this, there is no denying that they are already one of the most impressive dynasties in NFL history.
They have already won three Super Bowls in five seasons, a feat that very few teams can boast. What is more, they have their franchise quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, locked up through the 2031 season. In other words, they already have the most important building block of a Super Bowl contender for the next eight seasons.
While the players and coaches are focused on this upcoming season and winning a third-straight Super Bowl, the front office is working on ensuring that the team is competitive for years to come.
Kansas City Chiefs Are Rumored to Be Working on a Contract Extension for Kicker Harrison Butker
While Mahomes and other skill position players get the majority of the glory for the Chiefs’ recent run of success, it cannot be denied that kicker Harrison Butker has also played a massive role in their Super Bowl victories.
According to an article posted by Joe Summers of KC Kingdom, there is a substantial rumor circulating that Kansas City may extend their controversial kicker soon:
“According to X (formerly known as Twitter) user PrettyRickey213, who has built an underground following this summer by breaking big scoops before major reporters do, Kansas City will soon make Creed Humphrey the highest-paid center in football while giving Harrison Butker a new contract as well.”
As Summers notes, the X user PrettyRickey213 claims that the Chiefs are going to extend center Creed Humphrey and Butker.
Can you take me higher? The Kansas City #Chiefs will be making Creed Humphrey the highest paid Center in the coming weeks and kicker Harrison Butker will be getting a new deal too #ChiefsKingdom #RickeyDoesntDoPoliticsSoDontAsk pic.twitter.com/tQWCcVw8AX

While some may want to ignore the information posted by anyone that is not a credentialed NFL media member, it is worth noting that the same user posted about Jordan Love’s extension with the Green Bay Packers days before it was announced.
Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Is Valuable to the Team Despite Controversy
Prior to this offseason, many fans outside of Kansas City probably did not know the name of Harrison Butker. However, his commencement speech at Benedictine College, which contained multiple controversial and offensive statements about various groups of people, made him a popular talking point on social media and television.
For their part, Chiefs players have distanced themselves from the beliefs professed in Butker’s speech. However, they have stood beside him as a person and teammate.
Based on his production on the field, it is easy to see why. Last year, Butker made an incredible 94.3% of his field goals and 100% of his extra point attempts. He missed just two kicks all year long.
The year prior, 2022, Butker made just 75% of his field goal attempts. However, four of his six misses came on kicks of 50 yards or more. He was 15/17 (88.2%) on kicks inside 50 yards.
For his career, Butker has made 89.1% of his field goals and 94.5% of his extra points.
It has been in the NFL Playoffs, though, that Butker has proven he is one of the greatest kickers in the game today. Last postseason, he made all 11 of his field goal attempts. In the three seasons in which Kansas City has won the Super Bowl, Butker is 19/20 (95%) on field goal attempts and 33/34 (97.1%) on extra point attempts.
As Chiefs fans are well aware, playoff games and the Super Bowl can be determined by the slimmest of margins. Locking Butker up for the immediate future would be a good idea for the organization, albeit an unpopular one outside the fanbase.
