The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0 following their controversial victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon. Star running back Isiah Pacheco was injured in the final seconds of the contest, fracturing his fibula and will be going on injured reserve. However, a great deal of the reporting following the game has less to do with the players on the field and more with those associated with them off the field.
This is, of course, to be expected. Taylor Swift, who is dating tight end Travis Kelce, is arguably the most popular musical artist in the world. Additionally, with this being an election year in the United States, comments or posts regarding politics made by athletes or their family members/close associates are going to go viral.
Brittany Mahomes, the Wife of Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Went Viral for Her Support of Donald Trump
A few weeks ago, Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, went viral on social media for her support of former United States President Donald Trump. She lashed out at fans on social media who criticized her for liking and sharing his posts, writing, “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”
This response to the criticism aimed her way earned her a shoutout from former President Trump, who posted on social media, “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country.”
He continued, “With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless ‘leaders,’ it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl!”
Mahomes’ support of Trump was rumored to have caused a rift between her and Swift, who is a supporter of Kamala Harris (but had not endorsed her at the time that these posts were made).
Donald Trump Once Again Praised Brittany Mahomes While Slamming Taylor Swift After Kamala Harris Endorsement
The rumors of a disagreement between Swift and Mahmes over politics was put to rest (for the most part) after Kelce and Swift attended the US Open (tennis tournament) with the Mahomes’ following their Week One win over the Baltimore Ravens.
As fans are well-aware, Swift has since announced her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election. She posted her endorsement on social media in the minutes following the most recent presidential debate, writing:
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
In response to Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Trump told Fox News,
“Well I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better. If you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was only a matter of time. You couldn’t possibly endorse Biden.
“But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace. But I Like Britanny. Britanny is great. She’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift. Wife of the great quarterback. I think she’s terrific.”
These words were not what had the wife of the Chiefs’ quarterback re-thinking her support of Trump. It was his participating in a social media trend directed at the 14-time Grammy Award winner.
Kansas City Chiefs and NFL Fans Roast Brittany Mahomes for Rethinking Her Public Support of Donald Trump
Over the weekend, the hashtag “#IHateTaylorSwift” was trending on social media. This was in response to the millions of fans that started the “#ILoveTaylorSwift” trend following her endorsement of Harris. It was a trend that the former President of the United States took part in:

According to an article in the Daily Mail, this post troubled Brittany Mahomes and has her rethinking her public support of the former President.
The article quoted a source close to Mahomes as saying, “This deeply bothered Brittany because Taylor is like a sister to her and she has done absolutely nothing wrong. She didn’t mention Trump in her post and is allowed to speak her mind.”
That being said, the article also said that Mahomes has not withdrawn support for Trump. Rather, it has her rethinking whether she will do so publicly.
Fans, however, were quick to mock Mahomes on social media:
not the 34 felonies… 2 impeachments… 1 judgement of sexual assault … or insurrection https://t.co/aJI2VVewJM

Ima be real with you… if somebody (with legions of unhinged souls at their beck & call) randomly posts to their legions that they hate me…
…and all you can do is “question” your support of that same person…

As mentioned, Mahomes has not withdrawn her support of former President Trump. Instead, she is considering not supporting him publicly anymore.
