The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a normal start by their standards, as they are still undefeated after 4 games against four solid teams. With their coach and quarterback combo, they are able to beat everyone in close games down the stretch. However, they have mounting injuries at key positions, and there are signs that they are certainly not going to three peat.
Think of the Philadelphia Eagles last season, as they also started undefeated for many games, but some too many glaring issues and injuries made them implode later on in the year. I’m not saying that the Chiefs will be anything similar to that, but they can easily be 0-4 if not for a few plays, and that does not bode well come the playoffs.
Additionally, their star injuries are mounting, and it does not seem like they have the right people in the building to fill in for their losses.
Kansas City Chiefs Lose Multiple Star Weapons Going Forward
The Chiefs should be favored to win their third straight Super Bowl, for many reasons. They have the best coach and quarterback in the league to go with a solid defense. They are all experienced and know what it takes to win and have many of the people who have done it back-to-back years now.
Additionally, there are almost no teams that are that good either at the moment as almost any team can lose on any given weekend to almost any given team. I wouldn’t call that parity, as most of these teams are awful, with bad coaching, and an incredible amount of penalties being called each game. Either way, there is no team in the NFL that anyone can confidently say will beat the Chiefs as no one has in years now when it matters.
With that being said, there are too many reasons for this specific Chiefs team to collapse soon. Starting with their injury to Patrick Mahomes’ number one weapon this year Rashee Rice. Rice went down in their game today and was carted to the locker room with a knee injury. Many have reported now that it appears this is a worst-case scenario and he will be down for the year.
OPINION: Reasons Why The Chiefs Will Collapse At Some Point
Rice is the second pivotal weapon to go down for the Chiefs as Isaiah Pacheco went down and is now on the IR himself. Pacheco may return later this season but the updates on his injury have been bad. The team signed their former player Kareem Hunt, so they must not be too optimistic that their running back will be fully healthy that soon.
Rice is looking like he will be out for the year, and besides Travis Kelce, who has been playing awful by his standards so far, and their new speedy rookie, they do not really have any legitimate threats. While it’s just week 4 and the team is undefeated, it is also just week 4, and they have glaring injuries to their two most important weapons. Many injuries can continue to happen.
They do not have the toughest schedule this year as well, so they may be able to use that to lock up the number 1 seed and get that crucial bye week going into the postseason:

As these injuries keep mounting, we will have to see if the next man up steps up and the Chiefs can continue to get these close victories each week. But from my perspective, they will have an incredibly hard time down the stretch and in the post-season getting wins against good teams with all these injuries.
If Mahomes and the Chiefs can bring home their third straight Super Bowl this year, I would argue that it is the most impressive of all of them. The team is falling apart at the seams with injuries, and no one is walking through the door that can fill those shoes. If they are able to somehow be the last team standing, it would be an incredible show of absolute dominance.
If The Chiefs win this year, then it is really hard to envision any team ever beating them. Then again, there really aren’t any good teams around that are real threats to take down the defending champs.
