The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly considering moving away from their hometown city if they don’t get their way on taxes. The team is notoriously cheap, and this year’s NFLPA survey revealed that Chiefs players don’t like how outdated their club’s facility is.
The Kansas City Chiefs want a tax burden for citizens
The back-to-back Super Bowl-winning Chiefs want local citizens to pay for the upgrades. Per Kevin Holms with KSBH, citizens in Jackson County will decide on a ballot initiative extending a 3/8-cent sales tax through 2064.
The Chiefs are threatening to move from Jackson County
The Chiefs want to use money from the sales tax to make renovations at Arrowhead Stadium and to build a new ballpark for the Kansas City Royals. Holmes interviewed Chiefs President Mark Donovan about asking taxpayers to foot the bill for the Chiefs’ and Royals’ projects.
Donovan said if voters didn’t continue to impose the tax burden on themselves or future generations who will have to pay the tax until 2064, the Chiefs would explore options to move from Jackson County.
“I can’t answer that for the Royals,” Donovan said. “I just know for us, the Chiefs, we would just have to look at all our options.”
The Kansas City Chiefs say they want to stay
Donovan said the Chiefs don’t want to leave Kansas City.
“I think they would have to include leaving Kansas City,” Donovan said. “But our goal here is, we want to stay here. And we’re willing to accept a deal for the county to actually stay here.”
The Chiefs and their owner, Clark Hunt, have plenty of money to improve their private enterprise. Tickets to Chiefs games aren’t cheap, and the taxes they want citizens to pay aren’t either.

So there going to leave KC, we pay alot of money to back them and now they want more, Owell have a good trip!
Why should the people pay for any team, or any sport? The owners make bank, they can pay. Get sponsors if needed.
You stupid S.O.B.’s just sealed your fate. NO MORE TAXES!! When you leave, don’t let the screen door hit ya, where the GOOD LORD SPLIT YA!!!!
OK, BYE!
Get the money from the league or from advertising. The billions of dollars the NFL makes and you’re going to tag the taxpayers with this? What a joke.
If the owner can afford improvements, he should pay for it or he certainly can move the team. The tax payers should not have to pay.
Fan loyalty is the only reason the team exists, if I want to improve my surroundings I flip the bill, no reason they shouldn’t do the same
Can we spell greedy? Between tickets and parking, the KC fans already pay through the nose to support the Chiefs. Somes families save all year to attend just one game, and this greedy owner wants to up their already hefty taxes to redo the lockerroom??
Give me a break.
Shame on you Mr Hunt. Shame on your arrogant greed.
This is another LIE planted by #ShermansFolly VOTE NO on Q1
Be responsible with your article! They are asking for just a renewal of the existing tax….not more taxes!
That’s more taxes then were previously scheduled.
Your making it seem like it’s going to be more than it already is. If a city wants a sports team guess what? Your taxes go towards it. Quit spreading lies.
I seen this movie before, life long STL resident & former Big Red & Ram fan. Pay up KC or watch the moving vans show up
Supporting the Chiefs (especially while they are a winning team) isn’t difficult for any of us – and continuing to pay the 3/8 cent sales tax doesn’t seem to be “hurting” most of us. But when the tax passes – will we still be subject to “increasing ticket prices – and parking passes”? That’s what really makes most of us furious – we pay the tax – but we can’t “afford” to spend money for tickets, parking, refreshments at the game – it’s priced right out of our “ball park”!
NFL WHAT A JOKE WITH ALL THE BILLIONS THEY HAVE, YET MANY CITIES ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN, IT WILL HAPPEN IN K C TAX PAYERS WILL GET STUCK WITH THE BILL . SUCKERS

All I can say is the following: “Do let the door hit you in butt on the way out!”. Fan loyalty is one thing, your a fan during the good and bad times. But , if the ownership is wanting the general public to pay for a private business’ structure improvements, provided the stadium is owned privately, no way. But if the stadium is s owned by the public, county or city government, then a partnership should be negotiated and voted with the private business having the right then to move after the “lease” expires. Just my 2 cents.
We are already taxed to death. Team you already make so much money it’s disgusting. Why don’t you pass the hat. I read an article lately, saying that maybe your owner needs to do more than pass the hat.
