The Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated after three weeks of regular season play, and boy has it been tough. The Chiefs have been suffering through it all, barely squeaking by with victories in the final minutes of each game. The two-time defending Super Bowl champions have played just well enough to win not only Sunday night’s game but in each game they’ve played so far. The Chiefs have leaned heavily on their experience and luckily the other team has self-destructed each time.
Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid On The Teams Performance
“Yeah, we got a ton of things to work on.”
He did however praise the defense for how well they’ve been keeping up. They were able to force the Atlanta Falcons into two turnovers on downs inside of the Chiefs 13 inside the game’s final minutes. He never elaborated on the Chiefs continuous struggles not even mentioning not getting the ball to Travis Kelce, or not being on the same page late in the fourth quarter trying to finish out games. However, when they interviewed Patrick Mahomes after Sunday night’s win he had this to say.
Patrick Mahomes Doesn’t Hold Back After Sunday Night’s Win
“We haven’t played good, I mean, really, all three games. We’ve been able to win, and that speak to the character of the team, the grit, how we’ve been in these situations before. But i’ll speak especially offensively and me, myself, I feel like I haven’t played very well.”
“That’s not a stats thing, I just feel like I’m missing opportunities whenever they’re out there and not throwing the ball in the exact spot I want it to be at.”
Patrick Mahomes has a passer rating of 89.9 with 659 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions in the first three games of the 2024 season. Not his best work, but certainly no Skylar Thompson numbers. Mahomes struggled to hit the long passes. His longest was a 27-yarder to Rashee Rice, but this floated an ugly interception to Justin Simmons on Kansas City’s first drive. Rashee Rice even had this to say post-game
“He’s the greatest quarterback I’ve ever played with, so you know, whenever he feels like he hasn’t had a great game, I feel the same way.”
Even though Rashee Rice led all receivers with 12 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. The vibes of sloppy play radiate throughout the locker room.
Defense Holding Up Their End Of The Bargain
The Kansas City defense has held up their end of the deal halting the Atlanta Falcons. Linebacker Nick Bolton from Mizzou made the stop of the game, catching Bijan Robinson in the backfield on fourth and one with less than a minute to go on the clock. After the game, he put all the credit on the Chiefs’ weekly preparation.
Honestly, the fact that Kansas City is struggling right now in the eyes of their star players, and yet still winning, ought to be one hell of a warning sign to the rest of the league. If the Chiefs continue to suffer through this rough patch and still manage to win games, a three-peat might be the least of the league’s problems with the Chiefs.
