The Kansas City Chiefs will enter the 2024 season fresh off their third Super Bowl victory in five seasons, all with two-time MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center. Mahomes continues to separate from his peers, being the only active starting signal-caller in the NFL with multiple Super Bowl rings despite entering just his age-29 season.
With Mahomes being the unquestioned best quarterback in the NFL, his name remains linked to the 2028 Summer Olympics and the debut of flag football. However, this week, United States flag football quarterback Darrell Doucette has taken exception to fans clamoring for NFL players to join the team. On Wednesday, he went further, claiming he would be a better fit than Mahomes on the 2028 Olympic squad.
Darrell Doucette: Claims He is a Better Fit than Patrick Mahomes for 2028 Flag Football Olympic Team
In an interview with TMZ, USA flag football quarterback Darrell “Housh” Doucette believes he would be a better fit than Kansas City Chiefs mega star Patrick Mahomes for the 2028 Olympic flag football team. Flag football will join the catalog of Olympic games starting in 2028 when the games head to Los Angeles. Doucette emphasizes his knowledge and flag football experience as the main difference between him and Kansas City’s two-time MVP quarterback.
"At the end of the day, I feel like I'm better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game."

“At the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game. I know he is the best in the league. I know he is more accurate. I know he has all these intangibles, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”
Since 2020, Doucette has played a vital role in the rise of Team USA’s flag football team. The five-foot-six, 140-pound passer led the United States to a gold medal finish at the 2022 World Games. Additionally, Doucette was a member of Team USA during their IFAF Americas Continental Flag Football Championship in 2023.
Doucette: Skeptical of NFL Players Joining Team
Doucette’s confidence in the current rendition of Team USA does not stop at his comments on Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes. Earlier this week, Doucette shared his frustration with NFL players wanting to join the team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“I think it’s disrespectful that they just automatically assume that they’re able to just join the Olympic team because of the person that they are. They didn’t help grow this game to get to the Olympics. Give the guys who helped this game get to where it’s at their respect.”
NFL stars Tyreek Hill and Jalen Hurts have expressed interest in playing flag football during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The NFL will likely alter its training camp schedule in 2028 to allow players to participate in the Olympics.
Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes: Ideal Fit for 2028 Olympic Flag Football Team
If Team USA’s flag football team opts to pick a quarterback from the professional ranks, Kansas City Chiefs star signal-caller Patrick Mahomes will make the perfect addition to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics team. Mahomes, the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, sat behind fellow passer Alex Smith during his rookie year before taking over the offense in 2018. Mahomes owns a 74-22 record as the starting quarterback in Kansas City while leading the NFL in passing yards or touchdowns thrice.A two-time MVP and one-time Offensive Player of the Year, Mahomes also owns a 15-3 playoff record, throwing for 41 touchdowns against eight picks during that stretch. Known for his ability to extend plays with his legs and make off-platform throws, Mahomes would be an ideal fit for Team USA’s flag football team in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
