The Kansas City Chiefs‘ backfield is in a bit of a state of flux following Isaiah Pacheco’s injury.
Rookie Carson Steele had the first opportunity to plant his flag as the Chiefs’ top running back, last Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons but veteran Samaje Perine figures to play a role as well.
Then, there’s Kareem Hunt who has big plans and lofty goals after being elevated from the practice squad ahead of this week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“I’m excited to go help shock the world,” Hunt told reporters, reaffirming the suggestion that he can still be a steady contributor.
Hunt returns to the field for the first time in 2024 after rushing for 411 yards and nine touchdowns last season for the Cleveland Browns, but, the situation in Kansas City presents an opportunity to prove he can still be a prolific running back as part of an electrifying offense.
“I see a lot of talent around here,” Hunt said. “They’ve had a bunch of talent ever since I was here. Seeing the way Pat has grown and matured and became the leader of this team — because my rookie year, I played with Alex (Smith), and he was like that — so I feel like, just seeing the player he turned into, I couldn’t be happier.”
