The Kansas City Chiefs will enter this fall on the heels of back-to-back Super Bowl victories while remaining the favorite to reach the “Big Game” again this season. On Tuesday, Kansas City made a wave of roster cuts ahead of the league’s deadline to trim their teams to a 53-man roster. One of the team’s most notable cuts came in the form of a former college football superstar.
The Chiefs will waive wide receiver Justyn Ross on Tuesday following two seasons. Ross dealt with an injury-riddled tenure with Kansas City after suffering a brutal neck injury during his time with the Clemson Tigers in 2021.
Kansas City Chiefs Part Ways with Lengthy Wideout
After two seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs will move on from Justyn Ross, releasing him ahead of the NFL’s roster cut deadline. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz:
Sources: The #Chiefs are releasing former Clemson star WR Justyn Ross. KC has a crowded receiver room, making it challenging to keep everyone.
The Chiefs will part ways with Ross following a two-year tenure, but he could return to the AFC West squad as a practice squad participant. Ross won two Super Bowls with Kansas City during his time but did not record a postseason stat. Ross opened his career on the injured reserve due to an offseason foot surgery. Last season, the six-foot-four, 210-pound pass-catcher caught six receptions for 53 yards in ten games.
As an undrafted free agent in 2022, Ross dominated as a member of the juggernaut Clemson Tigers despite missing his junior year and recovering from a congenital fusion condition of his neck. Ross posted a 1,000-yard receiving season as a freshman, highlighted by a ludicrous six receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown in the title game against an elite Alabama Crimson Tide defense. Following his neck surgery in 2020, Ross never returned to his elite freshman form, with Kansas City Chiefs fans saddened by his career trajectory:
I hate how much Justyn Ross's talents have been ignored. He's not making the roster after ANOTHER good training camp and preseason. I hope he goes to another team and flourishes.

Ross has always been a “He’s breaking out this year” followed by crickets. Lot of potential that we saw but never panned out. Only thing I wish is he would’ve got more chances but I trust Reid and Veach
