Kansas City Chiefs ruled out Pro Bowl left tackle D.J. Humphries for Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers, his season debut. The Chiefs needed to find a replacement at left tackle against Browns’ elite Myles Garrett, who primarily lines up on the right side.
The Kansas City Chiefs second-year player has struggled
As previously discussed on Gridiron Heroics, the Chiefs’ third-round pick from last year’s draft, Wanya Morris, started Weeks 3-13 at left tackle. Morris has struggled, and the team doesn’t feel comfortable with him blocking Myles Garrett. So, they made a massive position change.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a new starter at left tackle
According to Adam Teicher of ESPN NFL Nation, Chiefs’ Pro Bowl left guard Joe Thuney warmed up at left tackle during pre-game warm-ups while Mike Caliendo warms up at left guard. Thuney, who has played 88 snaps at left tackle in the NFL (h/t PFF), most recently in Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, will make his first career start at the position in the NFL. The last time he started a game at left tackle was in his senior year of college with the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
