The Kansas City Chiefs boast one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL, but largely rode a dominant defense to a second consecutive Super Bowl championship last season.
As the 2024 campaign looms, and the Chiefs bid for a historic third-consecutive Super Bowl title is set to begin, one of Kansas City’s young players could be primed to take a big step forward and play a starring role in a potential three-peat.
NFL Analyst Bullish on Kansas City Chiefs’ George Karlaftis
CBS Sports NFL analyst Jared Dublin put together a list of each team’s breakout star for the upcoming season, including edge rusher George Karlaftis for the Chiefs.
“Karlaftis’ 2022 draft-mate, Trent McDuffie, has already become an All-Pro,” Dublin writes for CBS. “That may not be in the cards for Karlaftis, but after racking up 16.5 sacks in his first two seasons, he’s clearly got more pass-rush juice than some people initially thought — and he’s also a really good run defender. Steve Spagnuolo will put him in consistent position to succeed.”
Karlaftis has proven to be a high-motor presence off the edge since the Chiefs chose him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, out of Purdue.
At least one NFL Front Office Executive believes Karlaftis has a lofty ceiling in the years ahead.
Leading up to the 2022 draft, an NFC executive told me he believed Karlaftis reminded him of potential future Hall of Famer J.J. Watt.
Through his first two seasons, Karlaftis has posted 80 total tackles with 16.5 sacks, but could be on the cusp of being even more productive and disruptive in 2024.
