The Kansas City Chiefs have a unique approach to preseason games as they believe in playing their starters. Head coach Andy Reid has followed this practice since taking over in 2013, giving his key players plenty of opportunities to play in preseason games. However, during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, one of the Chiefs’ significant new acquisitions on the offensive side was injured in the first quarter after making a catch.
On the first play from scrimmage, Marquise ‘Hollywood” Brown caught a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes across the middle of the field before being tackled by cornerback Montaric Brown. The speedy wideout took the brunt of the defender’s weight on his shoulder before exiting the contest. While the NFL awaits the status of Hollywood Brown, the Kansas City Chiefs devotees took to Twitter in disbelief over the receiver’s injury.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown: Injured in Preseason Opener
The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans will hold their breaths after star wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown went down with a shoulder injury early in the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hollywood Brown suffered the shoulder injury following an eleven-yard reception on the first play from scrimmage. Chiefs fans were furious over the potential long-term loss of Brown, specifically with the injury coming in the preseason opener. Unlike most teams, the Chiefs play their starters to begin the postseason. The Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, and Cincinnati Bengals rested their starters, including their top skill players, in their preseason openers.

Hollywood Brown: Joins Kansas City Chiefs for 2024 Season
Following a short two-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals, Hollywood Brown signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. Brown, the 26th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, opened his career with the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent three seasons. Brown posted 46 receptions, 584 yards, and seven touchdowns as a rookie before recording a career-best eight touchdown receptions on 58 catches and 569 yards in 2020. Brown tallied a career-high 91 receptions and 1,008 yards in 2021, his final with the Ravens.
The Cardinals traded for Brown before the 2022 season, sending the 23rd overall pick in the subsequent draft for the speedy wideout and third-round selection. The Oklahoma product had 67 and 709 receptions in 12 games during his inaugural season in the desert. Brown had 51 catches, 574 yards, and four scores with Arizona last season. Brown joined the NFL ranks following two exceptional seasons playing for Oklahoma football. The five-foot-eleven, 165-pound pass-catcher recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, highlighted by a first-team All-American selection after his final year.
