Kansas City Chiefs: Fans Erupt in Joy After UDFA Makes 53-Man Roster – REPORT

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made numerous roster cuts ahead of the NFL’s deadline to reduce rosters to 53 players. However, on a day when most NFL franchises are announcing the release of veterans, rookies, and training camp studs and duds, Kansas City fans are jumping for joy following the team’s report that one inspiring undrafted free agent will make the team.

Former Ball State Cardinals and UCLA Bruins standout running back Carson Steele, who signed with the Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, will make the team’s 53-man opening day roster. The AFC West club will keep Steele after a standout training camp and preseason, much to the delight of their fanbase.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero:

On a day of players getting cut, here’s a fun story of one guy who made it: RB/FB Carson Steele is on the # Chiefs’ initial 53-man roster, thanks to a preseason with plays like this.

In 2022, Steele tallied 1,722 yards and 15 touchdowns while a member of the Ball State Cardinals. Steele transferred to the UCLA Bruins for the 2023 season, registering 1,010 scrimmage yards and eight scores. Despite his massive college success, Steele went undrafted, landing with the Kansas City Chiefs as a UDFA last April.

Steele was impressed during his first rookie offseason and training camp, highlighted by his stellar performance in the preseason. Across three exhibition games, the UCLA product rushed 11 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught both of his targets. Steele will operate as a backup running back, but offensive genius and head coach Andy Reid will likely deploy him as a fullback destined for playing time in unique goal-line and short-yardage situations. Chiefs fans remain excited about the potential of Steele in 2024, sharing their eagerness for him to showcase his talents this fall:
