The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered the depth behind tight end Travis Kelce by acquiring tight end Peyton Hendershot in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys had had high hopes for Hendershot, after signing him as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. However, the 25-year-old pass catcher appeared in just nine games during the 2023 campaign while dealing with an ankle injury.
Through his first two seasons, Hendershot, 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds, has caught 15 of his 23 targets for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Across four collegiate seasons at the University of Indiana, Hendershot was one of the Hoosiers’ most consistent offensive weapons, catching 136 passes for 1,479 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 10.9 yards per reception.
How Peyton Hendershot Fits behind Travis Kelce with Kansas City Chiefs
While the Cowboys would possibly have waived Hendershot ahead of final roster cuts, the Chiefs jumped the line to add a quality backup with upside behind All-Pro Travis Kelce.
Before adding Hendershot, the Chiefs waived former second-round pick Irv Smith, which cleared the way not only for the trade with the Cowboys but for Noah Gray and Jared Wiley to most likely make the initial 53-man roster.
