The Kansas City Chiefs will be one of the first teams in the NFL to take the field during the regular season as they open up their 2024 campaign with a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.
The status of wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown for that game has been in question since Brown endured a sternoclavicular injury that sent him to the hospital in their preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars
Kansas City Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown was officially ruled out

The Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid officially ruled Brown out of their week one opener against the Ravens.
While Brown’s injury occurred in a spot on his body that required a trip to the hospital to ensure it stayed away from vital operations of the body, he is expected to come back sometime this season at 100%. 2019 Team athletic trainer Rick Burkholder explained how dangerous the injury could be in an article from Sports Illustrated when former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill had the same injury.
“[Hill] had a sternoclavicular joint injury which is where your clavicle comes into your sternum,” Burkholder said. “Those can be injured coming out the front, up top or in the back. If it goes posteriorly or back it becomes a medical issue for us so that we worry that there’s more problems. His came back posteriorly and he didn’t have any medical issues but we still transported him to Baptist Medical Center [Jacksonville] and we turned his care over to Brett Frykberg who is an ortho-trauma physician.”
Reid explained in an article from Sports Illustrated that Brown would miss some time when the injury originally occurred.
“As far as the injuries go, Hollywood Brown has that same thing that Tyreek had down here, actually,” Reid said. “Sternoclavicular post dislocation. They’ve taken him to the hospital. They’ll check him out, and they’re working on that as we speak.”
“I think he’ll miss some time,” Reid said. “We’ll just see where it’s at. We’re kind of going through it right now. We’ll know more later on here.”
Hollywood Brown was a new addition for the Kansas City Chiefs

While quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs offense will miss Brown in the season opener, they had no problem winning their third Super Bowl in five years without him in 2023.
The Chiefs have a strong helping of six wide receivers other than Brown, including rookie and 40-yard dash record-holder Xavier Worthy/ Kansas City also recently acquired JuJu Smith-Schuster, who has already spent time with the Chiefs during his career.
The Chiefs will be going up against a Ravens defense that lost their defensive coordinator and a few key pieces, but will likely remain the stiff and sound defense with which Baltimore fans are familiar.
Many fans see Brown’s injury as an opportunity for other Chiefs players to have a big day against the Ravens on Thursday.
