The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a 3-0 start as they get prepared for a road matchup against the 2-1 Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Head coach Andy Reid has his team focused ahead of another tough matchup this weekend.
Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes have been a terrific coaching quarterback duo over the past several seasons. They have won three Super Bowl titles in the last five seasons because of it.
Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Makes Significant Statement About Travis Kelce’s Slow Start
Travis Kelce has not been a factor for the Chiefs in the first three games of the 2024 season despite the 3-0 start. He has only caught eight passes for 69 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 8.6 yards per reception. To a lot of fans, this is very alarming.
Many fans are wondering if Kelce is distracted by dating Taylor Swift or if he just doesn’t want to play football anymore. Andy Reid doesn’t seem alarmed by his slow start at all and he thinks that defenses are eyeing him, which has allowed the other wide receivers to step up. Andy Reid said to The Athletic’s Nate Taylor about Travis Kelce’s slow start:
“I know people are saying that he’s old or has distractions, but the defenses don’t think that. We have another receiver [Rice] that plays opposite of [Kelce] who has a lot of yards and catches. That’s how this thing goes. Travis is fine. He just keeps being Travis. He works his tail off and he hasn’t lost a step. He’s not distracted.”
At some point, the Kansas City Chiefs will need to rely on Travis Kelce. He is 34 years old and will turn 35 on October 5. Kelce may be toward the end of his NFL career.
Travis Kelce Owns the Los Angeles Chargers
Throughout his NFL career, Travis Kelce has owned the Los Angeles Chargers. If he does not play well this weekend against Los Angeles, it may be time to sound the fire alarm and that also includes head coach Andy Reid.
In 18 games played against Los Angeles, he has caught 100 passes for 1,223 yards receiving, and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 12.2 yards per reception. Travis Kelce has been targeted 139 times in those games. It will be interesting to see if quarterback Patrick Mahomes eyes him early and often in Week 4 to finally get him going.
