The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls this year and they bolstered the wide receiver room during the offseason. The team drafted Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round and signed Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a deal as a free agent.
However, Hollywood Brown suffered a shoulder injury during the opening preseason game and with the Kansas City Chiefs beginning their season on Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens, his availability is being questioned. However, coach Andy Reid stated that Hollywood Brown is not expected to play in Week 1.
This could be a reason why the Kansas City Chiefs went out and re-signed wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. Not having Hollywood Brown on the field against his former team is going to be a tough loss to overcome. Last season with the Arizona Cardinals, he had 51 catches on 101 targets for 574 yards (11.3 yards per reception) with four touchdown catches.
This is going to be interesting as he signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason and needs to be able to step up to get back into a premier wide receiver.
Can the Kansas City Chiefs win Week 1 without Hollywood Brown?
The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to host the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of the AFC Conference Championship Game last year and the Chiefs are three-point home favorites as of this writing, even without Hollywood Brown. Things are going to be interesting as both teams bolstered their roster and do not want to start off the season with a loss.
Neither team did well in the preseason this year either but that does not necessarily mean much in the grand scheme of things. With Patrick Mahomes under center, the Chiefs should be in a good spot. However, the focus is going to be on their defense going up against Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.
It will be a tough game as the Ravens did lose a lot of pieces so expect the Kansas City Chiefs to walk away from Week 1 with a win, unlike what they did last season.
